Re-Partnering Breakdown
A 75-year-old Widower enters a relationship with a 60-year-old woman. The Widower drafts his Will, leaving all assets to his new girlfriend. She assures the Widower she will be fair to his adult children when the time comes.
The Widower shows initial signs of dementia a few months later.
The Widower’s adult children file for guardianship orders as they fear the girlfriend is spending their father’s money. They succeed and obtain the orders to manage and preserve the property.
When the Widower eventually dies, the girlfriend receives all the property that has been preserved and accumulated by the Widower’s adult children.
